The forum aims to highlight women’s employment insecurity in relation to equality of opportunity in the workforce, present and future economic security, and the gendered nature of unpaid and paid work.

It will bring together a range of stakeholders to develop strategies that focus on decent jobs and economic security for women in Australia.

Key questions for the forum

  • What does ‘equal opportunity’ mean in relation to trends towards job insecurity in the contemporary Australian labour market?
  • How can the current equal opportunity/gender equity legislation be more relevant to women in insecure work?
  • How can the union movement better include women and better represent them in the ACTU Insecure Work campaign?
  • How can current legislation and frameworks for women’s advancement in the workforce be improved?
  • What is the role of broader public policy such as in education, training, taxation arrangements and social security in improving women’s position?
  • What and where are the avenues for ongoing advocacy for women in insecure work?
